Day One of Desdunes Trial

The criminal trial of three former SAE pledges began today in Ithaca, New York. It appears that they have opted for a “bench”trial (no jury). The Ithaca Journal has full coverage, with details of what happened earlier on the night that George Desdunes died.

In opening statements, the attorneys for the three men said that “the kidnapping was light-hearted and even encouraged by fraternity members, saying that pledges had been recently chided for not conducting more.” His death was described as “tragic, but not criminal.”

There is no mention in the article of the criminal charges against the chapter that were described in Sunday’s article.
