With a long weekend of working with Panhellenic recruitment on my campus, I haven’t been able to keep up with the news. Here are a few important updates, and I will try to catch up with my reading file.
Miami U./Phi Tau – My previous post indicated that the lawsuit had been dropped. In reality, just the National Fraternity of Phi Kappa Tau has dropped themselves from the suit, the local chapter and housing corporation continue to move forward with the case. WHIOTV.com has the details.
Florida A&M/Robert Champion – The Orlando Sentinel has an article on the University’s response to the family’s civil lawsuit. The response indicates that the school is seeking to blame Champion for participating in the activity that lead to his death. “FAMU’s legal team contends that the school should not be blamed when the young man died doing something he knew was against state law and university policy.” If this is the approach being taken by FAMU, this case is going to get really ugly (and linger for a very long time).
Chi Phi/Lafayette – Still no word on the result of this case. The Chi Phi, Rho Chapter, Alumni Association website is still likely have the most up-to-date information.
