Criminal Charges Filed in Dhanens/Fresno State Death

Update (3/18)The Dhanens family has filed a civil lawsuit against the National Fraternity of Theta Chi, the local chapter, and six individual members.

The Fresno Bee reports that three individuals have been charged “two misdemeanor counts, hazing and providing alcohol to a minor contributing in the minor’s death.” The charges stem from the September death of Philip Dhanens as he was celebrating the beginning of his pledging at Theta Chi.

One of the men charged is the chapter president, the other two provided the alcohol for the event, they are aged 24 and 28. even if he an undergraduate member, what is a 28-year-old doing getting involved in forced drinking and hazing?
